A camouflage wheelchair for Lolo

Lolo is a 7-year-old French Bulldog. From one day to the next, without his caregivers perceiving any overexertion, fall or trauma, Lolo stopped moving his legs from behind. They observed that he did not want to leave his basket.

The veterinarian did some tests where they verified that he had a herniated in an intervertebral disc. It put pressure on his spinal cord, damaging the nerves. As he still had tenderness in his hind limbs there were possibilities of regaining mobility after surgery.

The operation was carried out, but although the owners and Lolo put all their efforts into rehabilitation, it was not possible to recover mobility. Possibly the spinal cord was already badly damaged or there was another hernia somewhere else in the spine.

They didn’t give up. Lolo is a very vital dog, he really wants to move and be self-sufficient. That is why the owners opted for a wheelchair… and no one better than our warrior Lolo to release the new camouflage color model. The following video was filmed a few seconds after putting the chair for the first time…

He says goodbye to his dog by making an emotional animated short

Cristobal Soto, a young Chilean designer, will make you cry with the tribute he has paid to his dog Rayita, who died in 2012 after 21 years together. It has taken a while but before I did not know much about animation and has had to learn before he can make this emotional short.

“Farewell“, this is the name of this farewell short film inspired by a lifetime, the 21 years that Cristobal Soto and Rayita shared, and also in a final moment, as Soto explained to I’m Chile: “When he was going to die, I was super weak, shivering and in pain, but still at one point he licked my hand before he died, just once. I was so sorry, that after that I came up with animation.”

Dog that to go to the park takes the bus alone

Belltown, a city in Seattle (USA), is watching these last weeks as a 2-year-old farmer gets on and off the bus alone and even does what she can to indicate that her stop is about to arrive.

His stop is that of a dog park where he likes to play and spend time and there he travels without anyone else. The initial surprise of the neighbors, to see a dog traveling alone by bus, became a concern later, thinking that the animal had no owner. However, this dog whose name is Eclipse, has an owner named Jeff Young.

Eclipse and his owner live very close to a bus stop that they often take to go to the park. Jeff tells Komo News, Eclipse’s solo getaways began by chance. Every day while they were both waiting for the bus to arrive, Jeff lit a cigar and gave him time to smoke it before the bus that took them to the park arrived. But, one fine day the bus arrived before Jeff finished it and Eclipse’s impatience made her climb alone without waiting for anyone. The surprise was when he found that he had gotten off at the stop he was playing and arrived at the park without problems. “We separated, she took the bus without me, but I caught up with her at the pipican,” Jeff said. “It is not very difficult to get there, you go up right in front of the house and get off in the park which is only four stops away.”

As disgusting as it may seem to most people, a quick glance on the internet allows you to find hundreds of videos of sex between humans, usually women, and animals of all kinds. These practices will be vetoed in Spain in the coming months if an agreement is forged between the parliamentary groups of Congress that aims to toughen penalties and introduce new crimes that punish animal abuse and that, according to the sources consulted, has signs of materializing shortly.

Esquerra Republicana has presented eight amendments to the reform of the Penal code that has been discussed for some days in the lower house and that the PP is, for the moment, willing to accept, waiting to know the contributions of the rest of the groups and to seek a joint wording on the behaviors to be typified, according to popular sources.

The reform designed in its day by Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, and that after a paralyzed year has been resumed and is being negotiated in an express way with a view to its approval in Congress in mid-January, already improved animal protection, by increasing the penalty, for example, if the mistreatment causes the death of any living being that lives “under human control”.

HEAVY HAND WITH REPEAT OFFENDERS

ERC now proposes that zoophilia be punished for the first time in Spain, with prison sentences of one to three years. It also demands that the organizers of dog or fights be prosecuted and the punishment of abuse in general be toughened, so that if the aggressor is a repeat offender, the judge can decree his entry into prison. This would be achieved by raising prison sentences to three years, since punishments of less than two years normally avoid imprisonment.

Likewise, Esquerra claims a penalty of three months to a year for those who abandon any animal, without demanding that it be in danger, as originally proposed by the reform designed by Gallardón.

Several of these amendments reflect the demands made by the Parliamentary Association for the Defense of Animals (APDDA). Its president, the former deputy of the Chunta Aragonesista Chesús Yuste, warns that, if this opportunity is missed and finally zoophilia is not punished, “there is a risk that Spain will become a sanctuary” of this sexual assault, given that in the rest of the surrounding countries it is already punished.

MORE FREQUENT THAN YOU THINK

Yuste assures that sex between humans and animals is “more frequent than you think” and that there are even pimps who are dedicated to prostituting sheep, cows, horses and other fauna. For this reason, he welcomes the fact that the parties are seeking on this and other aberrations against animals “the maximum consensus”.

According to the sources consulted, the Popular Party, with the approval of the Ministry of Justice, has commissioned a comparative study to analyze how the legislations of other states punish zoophilia, with the purpose of seeking a wording and introducing even penalties in Spain.

The new life of Derby, a dog with prostheses made with a 3D printer

The development of 3D printers is allowing very important advances in the field of medicine. Initially, this technology was used to create parts perfectly adapted to the body of each individual, using plastic materials. Medicine is already going further and organs are beginning to be created with biological materials in order to temporarily or permanently replace parts of the body.

Custom prostheses created with 3D printers have been used in humans, but this time the beneficiary has been Derby, a dog. It is an adopted dog, with a birth deformity on its front legs.

The adaptation of the prostheses are perfect, since the “mold” is obtained from Computerized Tomography of the dog’s limbs. The first prostheses used have been of low height so that it can be adapted to them to, in the future, make the definitive ones.

Business ideas that encourage adoption

The brand of Swedish origin Ikea in collaboration with the protective Animal Lovers League Shelter and Save Our Street Dogs have launched an original adoption campaign. This is Home for Hope. It takes place in Singapore and aims to help find a home for dogs that are crowded in the shelters.

The idea is simple: start with a photo shoot to get life-size images of the dogs. A QR code is added and displayed in Ikea stores, integrated into the decoration. In this way, anyone can scan them with their mobile and obtain the dog’s information, facilitating their adoption.

At the moment, this initiative is only applied in Singapore, we hope that the results will be favorable and homeless dogs from other countries can also benefit.

Don’t buy, adopt.

How to use thermotherapy in dogs?

Thermotherapy is, broadly speaking, the treatment by means of temperature. It is the most initial and intuitive phase of a rehabilitation; to such an extent, that all of us throughout our lives have applied it on occasion. Who has not hurt their ankle and when they got home they put on ice? Or heat when our back hurts?

The use of heat or cold in these cases is based on the characteristics of inflammation. In the initial phases (24-72h from the trauma) it is indicated to put cold. Thus, by decreasing the supply of blood to the area, we limit the exudate and, therefore, the inflammation. After the first few hours, it can be started with the application of heat, to increase blood flow and reorganization of the scar.

As for the analgesia produced by both heat and cold, there are several
theories, although the most accepted is the gate control theory. According to this theory, the fibers that transmit heat and cold are much faster than those that transmit pain, in such a way that the pain signal is inhibited in favor of those of temperature, pressure … That is, we “overload” the nervous system with information (in this case temperature) so that the body does not perceive the pain, even if the cause continues. It is also believed that the application of heat increases the secretion of endorphins.

A Mom Firefighter

It happened in Turkey. A passerby sounded the alarm: there were eight puppies trapped in a drainage channel on Kumbahçe beach. The cubs were about to drown as it was slowly filling with seawater.

Firefighters came. They were able to slow down the drain from continuing to fill with water, but it was impossible for them to access the puppies to remove them because the hole was too narrow.

That’s when a firefighter noticed that a dog was nursing a puppy in a nearby building. They realized that the puppy looked like those who remained in the drain… they had found the mother!

They called the dog. She came. They took her down the hole so she could rescue the puppies. And so he did, one by one. Within an hour, all the puppies were nursing with their mother.

Now, the mother is being fed by the neighbors, who are already looking for a way to be able to give the animals up for adoption.

This is called being a brave mom!

Learn to be more of a dog
